Truth, But Make it Funny: Giving Your Narrative a Comedian’s Ear & a Performer’s Heart A Masterclass with Nebulous Niang In this masterclass, internationally-touring stand-up comedian Nebulous Niang translates the creative survival skills of the stage into practical editing tools for the page. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the local and international stand-up landscape. Explore how performers such as Steph Dogfoot, Sam See, Sharul Channa and Rishi Budhrani have used vulnerability as a tool to further their practice and connection with their audiences. Whether you are working through a first line or refining a full draft, this workshop offers a unique lens on making your written voice feel deeply human, accessible, and alive. Drawing from Niang’s experiences of growing up and coming out in Singapore, this class invites participants to reach into their own unique experiences, learning to meld comedy, wit and vulnerability towards developing a writing project. Participants are required to bring along a short writing sample or project pitch to the class. From her beginnings as a "happily married straight woman" to currently living her best life, parenting Gen-Z kids in a queer, inter-ethnic relationship in a conservative environment, her comedy draws from a series of radical personal pivots, showing how humor can turn major life disruptions into deeply relatable stories. A featured performer at the Singapore Writers Festival, Nebulous Niang tours her multiple-sold-out comedy special, SLOMOSEXUAL, internationally - most recently staging the show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as in Saigon, Manila, and Phnom Penh. She also co-hosts the Comedy and Custody podcast alongside her comedy wife, Sasha Frank. Beyond the comedy stage, Nebulous Niang works as a professional transformation coach, guiding clients around the world on how to live their best lives, embrace their authentic selves, and navigate major life plot twists with humor and courage. Known for her grounded, high-trust approach, she specializes in creating safe spaces for individuals to untangle complex personal histories, move past mental blocks, and discover the clarity needed to own their individual narratives.
