About the Event This programme is suitable for adults. When was the last time you allowed yourself to pause? In Asian culture, when things go wrong, sometimes the first reaction is: “Why you never work harder?”, “Are you becoming lazy?”, “Others can do it, why cannot you?” We are taught to push. Push through school. Push through work. Push through failure. Push through family responsibilities. Push through exhaustion. But sometimes, the most courageous thing we can do is pause. For this volume, we want to hear different perspectives and lived experiences around the idea of Permission to Pause. Just 10 minutes, one story, one perspective. Because sometimes, someone's permission to pause may be exactly what another person needs to hear. SG60 Voices from the Heart is a community storytelling movement celebrating Singapore’s 60th year by amplifying voices that are often unheard. It is a live platform where everyday people step onto the stage to share real stories of resilience, struggle, hope, and transformation. #SG60VoicesFromTheHeart #PermissionToPause #HumanConnection #MentalWellbeing #Burnout #Singapore About the Facilitators SG60 Voices from the Heart is co-founded and facilitated by Sebastian Chen and Dr Nik Chong, who both lead the movement as storytelling facilitators and community builders. Together, they are not just organisers—they actively shape the experience on the ground: Sebastian Chen is a community storyteller, speaker, and author who focuses on helping everyday people turn lived experiences into meaningful narratives. He is also the creator of The Cockroach Way, and often speaks about resilience, adaptation, and human struggle. His facilitation style is energetic, story-driven, and focused on helping speakers find courage to speak honestly and simply. Dr Nik Chong works alongside Sebastian as a co-facilitator and anchor for the platform. He is often involved in curating speakers, guiding the flow of sessions, and ensuring each event creates a safe, reflective space for storytelling. His approach is grounded, calm, and structured—balancing the emotional energy of the stories with clarity and presence. As facilitators of SG60 Voices from the Heart, both of them share a common mission: to create a space where ordinary voices become powerful stories, and where listening becomes just as important as speaking. Together, they hold the space so that stories of resilience, loss, growth, and hope can be shared authentically—without performance, just presence. This programme is part of Thrive@Libraries 2026 (https://nlb.libcal.com/calendar?t=g&q=thrive%40libraries&cid=11498&cal=11498&inc=0). Thrive@Libraries 2026 Thrive@Libraries aims to re-introduce adults to the rich diversity of NLB resources, programmes, and services while celebrating reading as a way to live well. It features a flagship showcase event at Funan B2 Atrium from 13-15 November 2026, complemented by in-library programmes running from November 2026 to January 2027. Permission to Pause This year's theme is an invitation to busy working adults to view libraries as a space to pause and discover their interests through NLB's resources. Discover ways you can pause ─ to read, to play, and to connect. ReadSG This festival is part of ReadSG, NLB's national movement to make reading a lifelong habit and a shared culture that nurtures curious minds, critical thinkers and informed citizens. The ReadSG Challenge is NLB's national reading initiative that invites Singaporeans to rediscover the joy of reading through a simple daily reading habit. All it takes is 15 minutes a day to build a reading habit. That's about the time between three MRT stops, waiting for your bus, or enjoying your morning coffee. Click here (https://www.read.gov.sg/join-the-readsg-challenge) to find out where reading 15 minutes a day can take you! Registration and Attendance Registration is required for this programme.
