About the Event This programme is suitable for adults. We are taught to look for purpose out there — in the right job, the right cause, the right plan. And when the world doesn't cooperate, purpose starts to feel like something we've failed at. But purpose doesn't begin as a plan. It begins as a feeling. This EQ Café invites you to follow your own emotions to what matters most to you. Drawing on the emotion–needs model fromJoshua Freedman's new book Emotion Rules (https://amzn.to/4x80w1w), we'll discover that our feelings - including the uncomfortable ones - are signals pointing toward needs. And the largest cluster of all points toward meaning. Then we'll do something practical: we'll look at where we've been locating our sense of purpose and move it somewhere we can actually reach it. You'll leave with a first draft of your own Noble Goal - a short statement of purpose you can practice today, not someday. Emotional intelligence (EQ) means being smarter with feelings. It's learnable, practical, and grows through shared practice. EQ Cafés are reflective, engaging conversations for people who are curious about emotions and want to build insight and connection together. In this Café, we will explore: What are my feelings actually pointing me toward? Why does purpose feel so heavy — and where have I been locating it? What do I want to add to the world, and how do I practice that today? This Café invites you to stop searching for purpose and start listening for it. Who should join? Anyone curious about growing emotional intelligence — a learnable, measurable, science-backed skill set for thriving in work and life. What is an EQ Café? EQ Café is a free, 90-minute interactive workshop designed to help people explore and apply emotional intelligence (EQ) in real life. Developed by @Six Seconds (https://www.6seconds.org/) and hosted by Network Leaders worldwide who are certified in our EQ programs and professionally practice emotional intelligence. Whether you work in business, education, parenting, or another field, EQ Cafés offer practical tools and meaningful conversation you can take straight into your everyday life. Why do we run EQ Cafés? EQ Cafés are not spaces to teach EQ. They are spaces for people to experience and practice it together. By hosting free, accessible sessions in cities and virtually around the world, Six Seconds' Network Leaders create spaces for real connection, shared learning, and community growth. Every Café, every conversation, moves us one step closer to our vision: 1 billion people practicing emotional intelligence. It’s free — register to save your spot! Hosted by Shalini Srinivasan, APAC Network Leader, Six Seconds, the global community for growing and practicing emotional intelligence. It features a flagship showcase event at Funan B2 Atrium from 13-15 November 2026, complemented by in-library programmes running from November 2026 to January 2027. Permission to Pause This year's theme is an invitation to busy working adults to view libraries as a space to pause and discover their interests through NLB's resources. Discover ways you can pause ─ to read, to play, and to connect. ReadSG This festival is part of ReadSG. NLB's national movement to make reading a lifelong habit and a shared culture that nurtures curious minds, critical thinkers and informed citizens. The ReadSG Challenge is NLB's national reading initiative that invites Singaporeans to rediscover the joy of reading through a simple daily reading habit.
