About this workshop Sometimes, the way from Point A to Point B is not a straight line at all. Our journeys through worlds, whether our own or those we invent, can lead us to a different place than we expected or many places all at once! In such times of overwhelm, creative writing offers a way of mapping meaning for the writer in ways that can be reflective and surprising. In this workshop, participants will be guided by poet Jennifer Champion in elements of creative writing and approaches to path-tracing in literary works. Participants will: Be introduced to elements of plot in the works of classic contemporary writers Participate in creative writing exercises and frameworks that allow them to improvise on given structures in plots and imagery-making Write at least one short piece of fiction mapping a commute or journey of their choice, with personalised guidance from their instructor Participants are also welcome to bring suitable writing they have worked on for targeted feedback if they wish, although this is not strictly necessary. About the instructor Jennifer Champion is a writer, educator and textile artist. Best known for her poetry, Champion’s work has been tested in the national ‘A’ Level Literature examinations and she is a co-founder of the archive, poetry.sg. With 13 years of experience teaching the literary arts and two solo poetry collections under her belt, Champion has a wealth of knowledge to share in how writing can help ground and map paths for us in disorienting times. Registration and Attendance Registration is required for this programme. Please register one ticket per person. Then, scan the QR code at the venue to take your attendance upon entry. Please arrive 10 minutes before the session starts. Seats may be released to walk-in participants if you arrive late.
