About the Programme Scents and Stories: Memories in the Air Can the aroma of a favourite dish transport you to your childhood home? Does the scent of rain, flowers, medicated oil or perfume remind you of a special person or place? In this warm and engaging 90-minute online storytelling programme, seniors are invited to share memories awakened by familiar scents—from home cooking, celebrations and old neighbourhoods to nature, everyday places and meaningful people. What smell brings back a happy or comforting memory? Is there a scent from old Singapore that you seldom encounter today? Perhaps even an unpleasant smell has a memorable story behind it. Through photographs, gentle prompts and friendly conversations, participants will discover how a single scent can open the door to stories from different seasons of life. No storytelling experience is needed. Participants may share as much or as little as they wish, or simply listen and enjoy the stories of others. Important online participation note: To protect the safety and privacy of our senior participants, everyone must keep their camera switched on and display the name used during registration throughout the session. A registered first name is acceptable if the facilitator can verify the participant’s identity. Anyone who cannot be verified will unfortunately not be admitted or permitted to remain. The session will not be recorded, and participants should not take screenshots or make recordings. About StoryingSeniors Guided by professional storytellers Wong Swee Yean, Mabel Lee, and Anamika Bhati, StoryingSeniors is a LearnX Community supported by the National Library Board, where storytelling becomes a way to connect, reflect, and grow together.
