Programme Title: Paws, Presence & Peace: The Benefits of Animals in Yoga and Wellness Date: 4 October 2026, Sunday Time: 2pm to 3pm Venue: Central Library, Programme Room 2, Level B1 National Library Building, 100 Victoria Street Programme Synopsis: Join Yoga Therapist Lakshimi and her adopted dog, Nala, for an inspiring World Animal Day talk on the positive impact animals can have on wellness and mindfulness practices. Through personal experiences, photographs, and video footage from actual yoga sessions, attendees will discover how the presence of a calm and friendly animal can enhance relaxation, emotional well-being, social connection, and mindfulness. The session will also highlight the value of pet adoption, sharing Nala's journey from adoption to becoming a trusted companion in wellness settings. Whether you are an animal lover, yoga enthusiast, or considering adoption, this talk offers a unique perspective on the powerful bond between humans and animals. Programme Objective: 1. To educate participants on the benefits of animal companionship in wellness and mindfulness settings. Participants will learn how interactions with animals can help reduce stress, promote relaxation, and support emotional well-being. The presence of animals has been shown to lower stress levels and create a calming environment that complements wellness practices. 2. To explore how animals contribute to relaxation, mindfulness, and social connection. Animals naturally encourage people to be present in the moment. Their calming and playful nature can help participants feel more relaxed, less self-conscious, and more connected to others. 3. To raise awareness of the human-animal bond and its positive effects on well-being. The programme will highlight how companion animals can provide comfort, companionship, emotional support, and contribute to overall quality of life. 4. To promote responsible pet ownership and pet adoption. Using Nala's adoption story as an example, participants will gain a better understanding of the rewards and responsibilities of adopting and caring for a pet.
