About the Event Every day, we encounter vast amounts of information online, while algorithms, notifications and personalised feeds shape what we see. But how do we decide what to trust, question or ignore? This session explores the growing challenge of navigating digital information, and why critical questioning habits are essential for engaging with digital spaces thoughtfully. Experts will also examine how the brain processes information and how constant digital input affects attention and decision-making. Participants will also gain strategies for engaging with information more mindfully and responsibly. This programme is suitable for adults. About the Speakers and Moderator Speaker: Assoc Prof John Komar Associate Dean (Research Support) Office for Research, National Institute of Education, Singapore John Komar is Associate Professor at The National Institute of Education, focusing on the use of technology and AI for teaching. He applies his work in diverse contexts including teacher training, learning analytics, or student assessment. Speaker: Mr Kuok Zhi Qiang Principal Technology Consultant Aero Consultants Pte. Ltd. Kuok Zhi Qiang, Founder and Principal Technology Consultant at Aero Consultants, draws on industry experience across Google, Meta, aerospace R&D and industrial drones to consult and coach organisations and high-performing professionals. He advocates “Being More Human” — combining human strengths with innovative approaches to build meaningful possibilities across work, life and causes. Speaker: Mr Mervin Ang Outreach Manager and Librarian National Library Board Mervin Ang is an outreach manager and librarian with over 10 years of experience in NLB. With his passion and specialty in public education and content creation, he has conducted several talks and courses on information literacy and generative AI to a diverse audience of more than 100,000 individuals. He also curates educational content and regularly features in interviews and videos to equip more with S.U.R.E. (Source, Understand. Research, Evaluate) knowledge and skills. Moderator: Dr Dennis Kwek Centre Director and Associate Dean (Global & Strategic Engagement) Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice, Office for Research, National Institute of Education, Singapore Dr Dennis Kwek is Centre Director of the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice and Associate Dean (Strategic Engagement) at the National Institute of Education, Singapore. He leads NIE’s CORE Research Programme, a large-scale research programme on Singapore’s education system. His research spans education policy, classroom pedagogies, teacher professional development, and school improvement. About the series Education Exchange returns with a new season that turns the spotlight on one of the most pressing issues in contemporary life: screen time. As digital devices and online platforms become deeply embedded in how we learn, work and connect, questions about how we engage with screens meaningfully and responsibly are becoming increasingly important for individuals and families alike. Through a series of public talks, this edition of Education Exchange aims to explore how people of different ages can develop healthier, more purposeful relationships with technology, drawing on research insights and real-world experiences to support informed and balanced digital habits.
