About the Event From scrolling to gaming to studying and streaming, screens are becoming a big part of everyday life. But how do screen habits affect children’s sleep, attention, physical activity and well-being? Through research-informed insights and practical examples, this session explores the impact of excessive and sedentary screen use, the importance of healthy digital routines, and the role caregivers play in shaping children’s relationships with technology. Participants will also gain practical strategies for balancing screen time with movement, rest and meaningful offline experiences. This programme is suitable for adults. About the Speakers and Moderator Speaker: Assoc Prof Teo Wei-Peng Deputy Centre Director Science of Learning in Education Centre, Centre for Science of Learning in Education, National Institute of Education, Singapore Teo Wei-Peng is Assistant Director of the Science of Learning in Education Centre (SoLEC) and Head of the Motor Behaviour Laboratory at NIE, Singapore. His research examines motor control and learning across the lifespan, using neuroimaging and brain stimulation techniques to better understand brain function and behaviour. Speaker: Dr Evelyn Law Senior Consultant, Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics Khoo Teck Puat–National University Children’s Medical Institute Dr Evelyn Law is an Associate Professor of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Senior Consultant of the Child Development Unit at the National University Hospital (NUH). She is a clinician scientist specialising in developmental and behavioural paediatrics. Her research interests focus on the attention and executive functioning of children. She also has many national grants and publications on the influences socioeconomic status (SES), parental mental health, and screen use on developmental outcomes of children. Moderator: Asst Prof Alwyn Vwen Yen Lee Assistant Professor Learning Sciences and Assessment Department, National Institute of Education, Singapore Dr Lee is Asst Professor at the Learning Sciences and Assessment Department at the National Institute of Education (NIE). He has led research and development teams in education and industrial projects over 15 years, and his main research and teaching interests are in Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED), Educational Technologies, Knowledge Building, and Technology-Enabled Assessment. As digital devices and online platforms become deeply embedded in how we learn, work and connect, questions about how we engage with screens meaningfully and responsibly are becoming increasingly important for individuals and families alike. Through a series of public talks, this edition of Education Exchange aims to explore how people of different ages can develop healthier, more purposeful relationships with technology, drawing on research insights and real-world experiences to support informed and balanced digital habits.
